Welcome to the Women in Business Gibraltar website!  “It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this Website in my third-year term as Chair”.

WIB purpose is “To provide a professional networking platform which connects, shares and inspires likeminded women”.

The WIB Committee are local business and professional women who voluntarily give up their time to help and support the development and success of other business and professional women in Gibraltar. The Committee’s aspirations are to increase membership numbers, collaborate with other organisations and provide a dynamic and supportive network that enables our more experienced members to ‘send the elevator back down’ and help students/young entrepreneurs or less experienced women achieve success.

‘Be Bold for Change’ was the strapline for International Women’s Day in 2017 and WIB Gibraltar have embarked on a journey to fully embrace this theme throughout the Committee’s tenure.

A strategy meeting was held later in 2017 to redefine the WIB Gibraltar purpose and values and establish some key objectives to progress to help raise the profile of the network throughout Gibraltar.

As a result of those objectives WIB made representation to the Department of Equality and provided some parity statistics from Girls in Tech and Financial Services which resulted in a positive move on International Women’s Day 2018 where the Rt Hon Samantha Sacramento announced work will be commissioned in this area.  Additionally, WIB made representation on introducing a Mentorship Programme for Women to help with parity and diversity and the Department of Equality launched a mentoring programme in partnership with Gibraltar businesses in May 2018.  A successful pilot has now seen this programme progress to its second year of operation.

In 2018 WIB obtained legal advice on our single gender status as it was evident that we were unable to reach increased membership numbers from corporate organisation’s due to their equality policy rules and that, together with sustainability issues, called for transformational change to the network.   Following an Extraordinary General Meeting in December 2018 the membership supported collaborative discussions with the Gibraltar Federation of Small Businesses (GFSB) with a view to uniting with that network going forward.  In February 2019 five WIB members became Board members of the GFSB, 50/50 Board representation.  Work is ongoing to rebrand WIB and unite with GFSB later this year subject to key constitutional changes being accepted through the WIB & GFSB memberships.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme was “Balance for Better” to build a gender-balanced world and the international theme recognised that this is not a women’s issue but a business issue.  WIB embraced this theme and collaborated with Her Worship the Mayor and the Department of Education  to organise a workshop event for young members of our community with the aim of discussing their hopes and aspirations for the future, balance being at the heart of the debate.  This involved 60 students who volunteered to participate in a Young People to Young Leaders Workshop headed up by six key leaders in Gibraltar.  This initiative was so successful for the young people it is being held again in 2020.  This event was followed up by WIB hosting their annual dinner attended by 250 guests.

Women in Business Gibraltar work together as a group of business and professional women to share business contacts and create opportunities for all our members in relation to their individual business and/or professional needs. We offer a forum to network and promote their businesses/careers and meet other like-minded individuals.

Our strength is having access to our diverse group of individuals that can and will support each other, promote and develop the network and reach out to other professional and business women both locally and in other countries.

If you want to embark on this journey, which is in a state of transformation, willing to collaborate and be part of this professional group please click here – you will be made most welcome”
